Handwoven in Afghanistan
For Afghan Carpet 02, Kühn invited Afghan artisans to weave their own vision of the night sky. Rather than prescribing a pattern, she offered the night sky as a prompt, allowing the composition to emerge through the artisans’ individual interpretation and making.
The carpet was woven using wool shorn from local sheep and naturally dyed with plants and minerals gathered from the landscape surrounding the artisans’ homes. The resulting work is a collaboration shaped by a shared idea, interpreted through local materials, knowledge, and imagination.
